Rescue Dogs Rescue Soldiers

Rescue Dogs Rescue Soldiers

Mission:

  • Train rescue dogs as service dogs for soldiers injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  • Name the dogs in honor of fallen soldiers and carefully pair the dogs with veterans to allow a better life for both soldier and dog.
  • Work with teens in a juvenile detention facility to train the dogs.

Status:

Collins: Rescue Dogs Rescue Soldier's first dog is in training now. He is an eight month-old chocolate lab/pit bull mix named "S. Collins" (called Collins). He was rescued when his family was being evicted. He was previously a stray. Sgt Sean M Collins: Collins is named in honor of Sgt. Sean M. Collins, a 25 year old member of the 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles. Sean was killed by a suicide bomber at a Forward Operating Base in Kandahar, Afghanistan on December 12, 2010. He was born at the Air Force Academy to parents who met in ROTC training. Sean loved dogs, especially pit bulls, and the Collins family has generously lent their support to the program.
